Leap Year

by Annette Wynne

Little month of February,
You are small, but worthy—very!
Will you grow up like the others,
Like your sister months and brothers?
Every four years with a bound
With a leap up from the ground,
Trying to grow tall as they—
All you stretch is one small day!
Even then you're not so tall
But just the shortest month of all.

Greetings All You Wild Luminous Ones! Happy Leap Day!! A day created by Julius Caesar in 45 BC to balance out the 365.25 days it takes the Earth to complete its orbit around the sun. It is an accounting day! It is the perfect day for a wild wondering as we leap into the month of March. I love the feeling of leaping as it is one of exhilaration and joy. It is an action word that contains forward moving energy and a feeling of risk…of uncertainty. It fits with the energy of the times we find ourselves in on planet Earth. In my overly active imagination, I am seeing frogs leaping to the 70’s tune of “Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog” by Three Dog Night.

The medicine of the frog spirit is valuable for our spiritual journey. It is a symbol of transition and transformation, and it supports us during times of change. It is associated with the element of water and its cleansing properties. It is symbolic of renewal, rebirth, fertility, abundance, transformation and metamorphosis. It is also about de-cluttering. What is encumbering you? This is the time for Spring cleaning mind, body, soul, and house. It about letting go of what no longer serves you to make room for what does. Spring cleaning is such a great spiritual practice. It helps to lighten the load, so that you can find peace and contentment on your lily pad. Frog spirit invites you to question what is weighing you down and to take the time to release it as it surfaces. If you need help don’t hesitate to ask this fellow frog. I am in the pond with you, and I am here to help lighten the load to make leaps of joy possible.

The song “Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog” speaks to de-cluttering with these words,

“If I were the king of the world
Tell you what I'd do
I'd throw away the cars and the bars and the war
Make sweet love to you.”

Here it is for your viewing pleasure:

“Clutter is not just the stuff on the floor.
It’s anything that gets between you and the life you want to be living.”

– Peter Walsh

Let’s leap into March with Joy! Let’s inhabit this wild wonderful world fully by taking responsibility for the clutter in our lives. Let’s get clean and shiny in our bodies, minds, and souls!

With Joy,
Jacqueline
